I’ve officially bought my first big ticket item of adulthood. My very own DSLR camera.
For a while, I drifted away from the things I enjoyed. Photography and creating videos were some of those things. In high school, I would film trips I took with my friends and put them together as a fun reminder of the things we did. At some point I lost the enthusiasm for it.
About a year and half ago, I started volunteering with a non-profit. The organization works to bring photographers and grassroots organizations from around the world together to help share the stories of people and communities. By helping out, I slowly started finding my interest in photography again.
I began borrowing a family member’s DSLR camera to practice. I started taking an online photography course (I love free courses). I started brainstorming all these cool ideas I wanted to try out. And slowly, but surely, I started making the first steps to achieve those dreams I had way back when.
Eventually, like most things that are borrowed, I had to give the camera back. Being camera-less was difficult. I had a desire to practice, but no camera. So, I took the money I’ve been saving for a while and bought my very own camera. (I totally love it. Head over heels. Best decision ever. Honestly, I should have done it sooner.)
I’m not even close to living out those dreams, but I’ve started. I’ve reconnected with something I really enjoyed when I was younger and it feels really good.
(but like, actually, new cameras smell awesome. I think it even rivals the smell of new books and new cars.)
